The Conservation Council of South-East NSW and Canberra

The Conservation Council is Canberra's peak non-government environment organisation. As an umbrella organisation, the Council represent the interests of over 35 community and conservation organisations in the ACT and Australian Capital Region as wells as the broader environmental interests of all citizens of the ACT. The Council's mission is to achieve the highest quality environment for Canberra and the surrounding region.

The Council is primarily an advocacy group, working by researching and presenting submissions, lobbying government, and mobilising the community. The Council responds to major items on the Government's agenda as well as proactively campaigning on issues of importance to its Member Groups and the ACT community. The Council also represents community and conservation interests on government and non government advisory committees.

The Conservation Council works independently of government and commercial interests. Although some funding is received from both the ACT and Commonwealth Governments, the Conservation Council is dependent on community support to continue its work for the environment.
