
Territory and Municipal
Services (TAMS) is responsible for the management of many different types of
urban open spaces ranging from formal town parks to semi-natural open spaces and
native grassland and woodlands.
These greatly modified spaces
are highly fragmented with a large urban interface and are therefore continue to
be subjected to much disturbance. An enormous range of opportunities exist for
Landcare volunteers to assist in the management of the open spaces and
supplement the Government’s core activities. TAMS encourages active community
involvement, and residents working together are making significant contributions
to the regeneration and management of our open space areas.
Landcare is a community-based
program in which volunteers, supported and assisted by TAMS and the Catchment
Groups, help in regenerating and preserving open spaces. Landcarers may operate
individually or be part of a group. It is a great opportunity to learn about the
local area, the local community and to develop an understanding of vegetation
and other environmental issues.
